Phil Courtney is a graduate of The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He worked as a billboard artist for over 25 years before he started to exhibit his own artwork. Since relocating to Cape May, NJ permanently in 1995, he has showcased his work at local galleries such as the former Washington Street Gallery, SOMA NewArt Gallery and the FAN Gallery in Philadelphia. His paintings have gained recognition with his oil painting, “Magnolia Seed Pod” being featured in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine in 2021 and his watercolor, “Money Plant” being selected for the Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s 121st Anniversary International Exhibition in 2021, where it received the PWCS 121st Exhibition Award. Phil’s proficiency in both oils and watercolors allows him to capture the atmospheric conditions of the seashore and interplay of sunlight and shadows on Cape May’s Victorian architecture. For the past several years, Phil has been teaching watercolor workshops in the Cape May and Rehoboth Beach areas, offering personalized instruction and guidance for beginners and experienced painters alike.
